Tamraght or Taghazout: where to stay for surfing?

Tamraght and Taghazout are neighbouring surf villages on the same bay north of Agadir, a few minutes apart by car. Both are good bases for surfing. Here is an honest comparison to help you choose.

Taghazout

Taghazout is the best-known surf village in Morocco. It is busier and more international, with many surf shops, cafés and surf schools along its main street. Its famous point breaks are mainly for experienced surfers, so beginners there often travel to beaches elsewhere in the bay for their lessons.

Tamraght

Tamraght is a few minutes south, between Agadir and Taghazout. It is a calmer village with a local feel, close to the beaches of Tamraght and Aourir, such as Banana Beach, which are often used for beginner lessons.

Getting around the bay

Distances in the bay are short, so where you sleep matters less if you have transport. At HoneyPath Ocean Retreat, the daily van takes you to the spot that suits your level, whether it is in Aourir, Tamraght, Imourane or Taghazout. See our surf spots.

Why we chose Tamraght

We wanted a calm house for surfers, close to the best beginner beaches, with a rooftop looking over the ocean. HoneyPath Ocean Retreat has only 11 rooms, each with its own private bathroom, and an all-inclusive surf week: lessons with certified instructors, board and wetsuit, full board, daily transport and free airport pickup.
