Is Morocco safe for a surf trip?
Taghazout Bay, between Agadir and Taghazout, welcomes surfers from all over the world every year. Like anywhere, a few simple habits make your trip easier. Here are our honest tips. For official advice, always check your own government’s travel page before you go.
Arriving
The easiest start is to be picked up: with a surf week, we meet you for free at Agadir airport or the Agadir bus station and drive you to the house. If you take a taxi, use an official one and agree on the price before you leave. More in Agadir airport to Tamraght.
Money and valuables
- Carry a little cash; cards are not accepted everywhere
- Keep your phone and passport in a safe place, not on the beach while you surf
- In markets, agree on prices before you buy
Respect and dress
Swimwear is normal on the beach. In the villages and the souks, covering shoulders and knees is respectful and avoids unwanted attention. A friendly “salam” goes a long way.
Travelling solo
Many of our guests travel alone. In a surf house you are never on your own: you surf, eat and travel to the spots with other guests, and we are reachable any time on WhatsApp. See our guide for solo travellers.
Safety in the water
The ocean is the part to respect most. Our certified instructors choose the spot for your level every day, explain currents and surf etiquette before you paddle out, and beginners always learn in the white water close to the shore. Never surf alone at a spot you do not know.
Health
Drink bottled or filtered water, use high-SPF sun cream and stay hydrated after surfing. Travel insurance that covers surfing is a good idea.
